The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) conducts the State Forest Service examination for recruitment to two posts — Forest Range Officer (FRO) under the A.P. Forest Service, and Forest Section Officer (FSO) under the A.P. Forest Subordinate Service. The examination is conducted as a single-level online Computer-Based Recruitment Test (CBRT) with objective-type questions. There is no separate screening test.

FRO — 4 vacancies — Degree Standard — Written exam: 600 marks (Qualifying + 4 Papers)

FSO — 26 vacancies — Degree Standard — Written exam: 450 marks (Qualifying + 3 Papers)

Negative marking: For each wrong answer, 1/3rd of the marks prescribed for the question will be deducted.

What is the exam pattern — how do FRO and FSO differ?

Both posts share a common Qualifying Test: General English (50) + General Telugu (50) = 100 marks / 100 minutes (SSC Standard), which must be qualified separately for each language.

• FRO — 4 main papers: Paper-I General Studies & Mental Ability, Paper-II Mathematics (SSC standard), Paper-III General Forestry–I, Paper-IV General Forestry–II. Each paper: 150 Q / 150 min / 150 marks. Total 600 marks.
• FSO — 3 main papers: Paper-I GS & Mental Ability, Paper-II Mathematics, Paper-III General Forestry. Total 450 marks.
